Mass Times

Weekday Mass is celebrated at 09:30 on Tuesday and Friday mornings in the Church.

Morning Prayer (Lauds) is prayed prior to the 09:30 morning Mass and starts at 09:10.

On Sundays we have one Mass at 10:00 where we also have Children’s Liturgy at each Mass, except during all school holidays.

There is also Mass at Saint Teresa’s in Beaconsfield every weekday and twice on Sundays too. Click here for their Mass times.

Father Seán writes ...

This week, as well as attending the Catholic Parish Summit (more about that another time), I also took part in a study day on the New Translation of the Lectionary. From this coming Advent the translation that we use for our Sunday and weekday readings is changing. Since 1981 we have been using the Jerusalem Bible for our scripture readings and the Grail translation of the psalms but on the First Sunday of Advent we will change to the English Standard Version (Catholic edition) for the readings and the Abbey Psalms and Canticles for the psalms. Why change? Well, like most things new insights are always being discovered about scripture and cultures too move on and those shifts are reflected in the language we use. For instance, in the story of the wedding feast of Cana (John 2/1-12) the Jerusalem Bible talks about ‘20 or 30 gallons’ that each stone water jar could hold; to reflect present usage that’s now translated as ’70-100 litres’! Imperial gives way to metric, but many people today have no idea of imperial measures! The most important thing to hold on to is that ‘when sacred scriptures are read in the Church, God himself speaks to his people’. We must always honour and respect the Word of God in whatever translation we hear it!
